With the new CPD policy effective from 1 Jan 2018, BEAM Pro is required to submit CPD hours and pay Qualification Renewal Fee to Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) annually. The Annual Qualification Renewal Fee is intended to cover the administration and operation cost of the credential, which cannot be waived.
Annual CPD Hour Requirements
The HKGBC recognises professional development in different forms. The CPD requirements for BEAM Pro comprise of live and online seminars, technical visits, project experience and research. BEAM Pro can achieve their annual CPD hour requirements in a flexible manner.

Types of CPD Activities
If you see the CPD icon at the event flyer, CPD hours for that event will be auto recorded.
Type 1
Attend or be a speaker in any green building-related training/seminars/events
Type 2
Conduct research/study; or
Write papers related to green buildings
Type 3
Attend HKGBC/BSL committee/working group meetings; or
Act as a jury member in competitions organised by HKGBC/BSL
Type 4
Participate in BEAM Plus project

Exemption of CPD Record Submission for BEAM Pro's First Calendar Year of Accreditation
CPD record submission is not required for the first calendar year of accreditation.
For instance, If a BEAM Pro is accredited at any date in Year 2021, he/she is not required to submit any CPD hours within the same Year (viz Year 2021). Starting from 1 Jan next year, he/she shall earn hours and add CPD records in the BEAM Practitioner Individual Account.
Excess or Outstanding CPD Hours
BEAM Pro can carry over excess CPD hours or make up outstanding hours in the next year.
As a one-off arrangement for the new CPD policy revamp, net excess Mandatory CPD hours in 2017 was multiplied by a factor of 1.2, the balance is now updated under the CPD Record Submission Page. In general, all excess hours will be carried over to the next year automatically without any time limit.
BEAM Pro who cannot fulfill the minimum CPD hours requirement can be made up in the 2nd and 3rd years of his/her accreditation. Since the 3rd year of accreditation, there will be a suspension check every year, please refer to the Section on Suspension and Termination for information.
Annual Qualification Renewal Fee
BEAM Pro are required to pay for qualification renewal fee every year as part of the requirements of qualification maintenance, regardless of the number of specialties he/she obtained.

Exemption of Annual Qualification Renewal Fee (AQRF) for First Calendar Year of Accreditation
AQRF paying to HKGBC is one of the mandatory requirement for maintaining BEAM Pro qualification but it is not required for the first calendar year of accreditation.
For instance, If a BEAM Pro is accredited at any date in Year 2021, he/she is not required to pay within the same year (viz year 2021). Starting from 1 Jan next year (Year 2022), he/she shall be required to pay in the BEAM Practitioner Individual Account, no any waiving is provided.
Surcharge to Annual Qualification Renewal Fee
A HKD$50 surcharge will be imposed for any delay in settlement after 31 March of every year.
Suspension and Termination
Failing to fulfill the CPD hour requirements or settle the Annual Qualification Renewal Fee may risk the suspension and termination of the BEAM Pro credential(s).
Suspension
BEAM Pro qualification will be suspended if BEAM Pro fails to fulfill the CPD hour requirements or settle the Annual Qualification Renewal Fee.
Failing to settle Annual Qualification Renewal Fee
BEAM Pro's credentials will be suspended if the fee is still not settled by 31 December of the corresponding year. A reinstatement fee of $320 will be imposed when the BEAM Pro settles the outstanding Qualification Renewal Fee and reinstate his/her BEAM Pro credential.
Failing CPD Hour Requirements
Since the 3rd year of accreditation, there will be a suspension check every year. If the total number of attained CPD hours within 3 recent years is still less than 30 (out of 45), his or her BEAM Pro credential will be suspended.
What's next?
The list of BEAM Pro with the credential suspended will be published in the BEAM Practitioners' Directory. Suspended BEAM Pro cannot declare himself or herself as a BEAM Pro or take up any role as a Project BEAM Pro in a BEAM Plus assessment.
Upon suspension, a 2-year grace period will be granted for suspended BEAM Pro to make up the outstanding CPD hours or to settle the outstanding fees, so as to reinstate the qualification.
Termination
If suspended BEAM Pro takes no action to fulfill the minimum CPD hour requirements, or settle the outstanding Annual Qualification Renewal Fee within the grace period, the qualification will be terminated.
Termination due to insufficient CPD hours
If BEAM Pro fails to fulfill minimum CPD hour requirements during the two-year grace period, the BEAM Pro qualification will be terminated.
Termination due to outstanding payment of Annual Qualification Renewal Fee
If BEAM Pro fails to settle the outstanding annual qualification renewal fees, surcharges and reinstatement fee during the two-year grace period, the BEAM Pro qualification will be terminated.
What's next?
Upon the termination of the BEAM Pro qualification, he/ she has to re-enroll the BEAM Pro Specialty Training and pass the examination to attain the qualification again.
